Wind chill can alter temperatures drastically, especially as the colder months roll in. For moderately windy days, pack a lightweight gilet or barrier jacket for optional coverage. When the winter chill hits, you will need a high-quality windproof layer, such as one with AmFIB® technology, to keep your core warm. On the coldest of windy days, protect your hands, head, and toes, and cover up as much of your skin as possible.

Our wind system uses lightweight, breathable barrier fabrics that act as a shield between you and the wind. These fabrics are breathable and temperature-regulating. Combined with our durable water repellent (DWR) technology, your wind layer also doubles as protection from light rain.

What should I wear cycling in the wind?
What is wind chill and how much does it matter on a bike?
Wind chill is how much colder moving air makes you feel than the actual temperature, and on a bike you create your own. Riding at 20 mph generates 20 mph of apparent wind even on a still day, so a 45°F ride can feel closer to 35°F. This is why a thin windproof layer often does more than a thicker insulating one.
Should I choose a vest or a jacket for windy conditions?
A vest blocks wind at your core while leaving your arms free to shed heat, which suits hard efforts and variable conditions. A jacket adds full coverage for sustained cold or exposed terrain. If you are carrying only one layer, a vest is the more versatile choice.
Is a wind layer also waterproof?
Wind layers are usually water-resistant rather than waterproof. Our barrier fabrics use DWR treatment, so they shed light rain while blocking wind, but sustained rain calls for a seam-sealed waterproof jacket.
