Ride 365® - Cold Weather

Wear a thermal base layer, an insulated or windproof jacket, thermal bib tights, insulated gloves, a cap or headband under the helmet, and shoe covers. Seal the wind and cover the extremities. See the fabrics in Insulation gear.

There's no hard cutoff. With the right layers, many riders go well below freezing. Below about 30°F, focus on wind protection and keeping your hands, feet, and head warm. Explore warm layers in Insulation.

Use insulated or lobster gloves, thermal socks, and windproof shoe covers. Sealing your core so blood keeps flowing to the extremities matters just as much as the gloves themselves.

Base layer to move sweat, an insulating mid for warmth, and a windproof or waterproof shell on top. Use a base layer so sweat can't chill you, and dress to start slightly cool.

Usually trapped sweat or wind. A wicking base layer keeps insulation dry, and a windproof front stops the chill that heavy but breathable layers let through.
