SELECT Levitate Chamois

Everyday comfort, no learning curve. SELECT Levitate™ is the entry tier of the Levitate platform, tuned for the rides most people actually do: weekend loops, commutes, indoor sessions, and casual all-day miles. It delivers dependable padded support and the same shaping approach as the tiers above it, at the most accessible point in the range.

Why SELECT Levitate™

Comfort-first padding: support tuned for moderate ride lengths and a wide range of riders rather than for race pace.

Broadest application: the pad you will find in everyday shorts, liner shorts, skirts, and thermal tights.

Easy to live with: pairs with the more forgiving fits in our range, which makes it the natural first chamois.

Where It Sits in the Range

SELECT Levitate™ is the entry point of a three-tier ladder: SELECT for everyday comfort, ELITE for high-mileage training, and PRO for race and endurance. Moving up adds foam densities and construction refinement. Compare the tiers on the parent Levitate™ Chamois page, or look at minimal chamois options if you want the lightest possible padding.

Which Lines Use SELECT Levitate™

Quest: shorts, bib shorts, and thermal cycling tights and bib tights.

Sugar: the 5 inch short, the 21 inch crop tight, and the Sugar skirt.

Transfer & liner shorts: Transfer liner shorts and padded liner shorts, for wearing under everyday clothing.

Canyon & Summit: Canyon shorts with liner and Summit shorts with liner for trail riding.

Choosing Your First Padded Short

If this is your first cycling-specific short, two decisions matter more than the pad tier: whether you want a traditional short or a short with a liner you can wear under regular clothing, and whether you want a bib or a waist short. The Shorts & Bibs Guide and the Chamois Guide cover both. Browse the full padded shorts range to see the options together.

Fit and Care

The pad needs the garment to hold it in place, so a short should feel snug enough that the chamois stays centered when you pedal, without gripping like a race short. Use the Size & Fit Guide to size. Wash cold, skip fabric softener, and air-dry. A chamois is worn directly against skin, with no underwear underneath.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about PEARL iZUMi products.

  • It is the entry tier of our Levitate™ chamois platform, tuned for everyday comfort across weekend rides, commutes, and indoor sessions. It provides dependable padded support at the most accessible point in the range, and it is the pad you will find in the widest variety of garment types.

  • The tiers step up support and refinement as ride length and intensity increase. SELECT is the everyday comfort tier. ELITE is dual-density for high-mileage training. PRO is triple-density with a super-smooth top sheet and seamless edges for race pace and endurance events. If most of your rides are a couple of hours or less, SELECT is likely all you need.

  • It appears across Quest shorts, bib shorts, and thermal tights; the Sugar 5 inch short, 21 inch crop tight, and skirt; Transfer liner and padded liner shorts; and Canyon and Summit shorts with liners. That spread means you can find it in a traditional cycling short, a liner, a crop, or a skirt.

  • Yes. More padding is not the same as more comfort, and a well-shaped everyday chamois in a short that fits properly will be more comfortable than a thicker pad that shifts. Fit and staying put matter more than thickness, which is why we would point a new rider here rather than to the thickest option.

  • A liner short is a lightweight padded short designed to be worn underneath other clothing, so you get chamois comfort without looking like you are in a race kit. It suits commuting, trail riding under baggies, and casual rides. A traditional cycling short is worn on its own with more compression. Browse shorts with liners to compare.

  • No. The chamois is built to sit directly against skin. Underwear adds seams and holds moisture against you, which is what causes chafing on longer rides. This is true of liner shorts as well, even though they are worn under other clothing.

  • Wash after each ride in cold water on a gentle cycle, and avoid fabric softener, which coats the foam and reduces how well the top sheet moves moisture. Air-dry instead of tumble-drying so the foam keeps its resilience and the fabric keeps its stretch.
