Reviews

Reliable, comfortable, stiff

"This is my second pair of Expedition Pro shoes and the second feels just like the first. I used the first pair heavily for 3 years and they have held up remarkably well through tough conditions (tour divide and other bikepacking races, hike a bikes, etc. ) They are very comfortable and i'd imagine would fit a range of foot shapes. I don't think the fit is a close or refined as other shoes but that works well for bikepacking as the fit is pretty generalist and allows your foot to swell. They are plenty stiff and feel fast. The soles have decent grip. My only complaint is that this level of Boa seems to loosen off over the course of the ride and needs adjusting from time to time. Would buy again."

Dang good shoe, needs grip

"Stiff, good quality material, boa. All things to like! My only gripe is the tread - basically rock hard plastic/carbon with no grip. Hike-a-bike is not fun. A bit of rubber on the sole would make these top-shelf."

— samwise (4/5)

This is it!

"If you're looking for a comfortable high performance cycling shoes, this is it. I have wide and flat feet. These fit well right out of box. Also allow me to keep up with strong cyclists on tarmac"

— Edward S. (5/5)

Tongue slips

"So far not so good. Excellent quality in the construction and materials but having the tongue slip down during a ride is super frustrating. Been riding for 30+ years and never had this issue before. Only one ride on these so far…."

— Justin H. (2/5)

Wonderfully fitting shoes

"Amazing fit, light and comfortable. The 14 is best suited for a foot that has some volume to it. Long feet will required a firm clamp down on the BOA."

— Nick L. (5/5)

Instant upgrade

"This is my first pair of cycling shoes with a carbon sole, and I wish I hadn't waited so long! Ontop of the amazing power transfer, they seem to hug in all the right places. The only exception being that it is not a perfect fit in the heel cup, however, that is true for most shoes for me so I'll take the blame on that for having duck feet. I bought the exact same size that I had been riding in a pair of Shimano MTB shoes and the fit is great!"

Good shoe, but cleat issues are bad

"These shoes are very comfortable (double boa is great) and look good. HOWEVER, I've had serious issues with the cleat staying in the pedal. It pops out way too easily. I've done the science and determined it's the shoe, not the cleat or the pedal. I've tried multiple cleats in this shoe, both new and old, and I consistently have issues with the cleat coming out of the pedal. I've tried the same (new & old) cleats in three different PI shoes, and have had no issues with the cleat easily popping out of the pedal in the other shoes. The issue is worse with the lower end Shimano pedals, and it's slightly better with XT and XTR pedals. But, it's not confidence building when your foot randomly pops out of the pedal. Yes, I've also tightened the bolt in the pedals themselves to make sure that's not the issue. It sucks when you pay $280 for a shoe and have this issue. It especially sucks because the shoe is so nice, but is then ruined by the cleat issue. I've bought a lot of Shimano and PI products over the years, and this is the first one I've been disappointed with. I've been very happy with these other shoes from PI: X-Alp Summit, Expedition, and Gravel X. The Expedition Pros just aren't it."

Expedition Pro

"A very comfortable, light and stiff gravel/MTB shore. First 3 hour ride with them no issues with fit. BOA works great to dial in fit. A very roomy toe box vs SIDI which I have been riding and racing with for 20 years."

"These shoes are awesome, stylish, and comfortable! I love the Boa lacing system, easy to adjust on the bike. This is my first time moving to gravel riding after 15 years of triathlon. I would definitely consider these shoes for off road/gravel riding. A little pricey, but worth the money. True to size fit."
