USE SIMPLE DETERGENTS WITH NO ADDITIVES Never use detergents with fabric softeners, perfumes or any additive type product. The general rule of thumb is the simpler the better. Many detergents with additives leave "surfactants" behind on a fabric's fibers that inhibit the technical performance. Typically the best detergents to use will have "Clear" or "Free" in their names. Don't pour the detergent directly onto the clothing, put it in the washer first, when you start the water. If something is not functionally working, but is not dirty, try rinsing it twice in warm to hot water. This will help get rid of the harmful surfactants. READ THE CONTENT CARE LABEL: On the inside of your garment, or on the hangcard, there are instructions for the care of that individual piece. On garments this will be on a side seam or back seam label. Follow those directions. On finer fabrics, use a "Gentle" cycle. Close all zippers, attach "hook and loop" closures on gloves YOU CAN USE THE DRYER, CAREFULLY: If you use a dryer be sure to use a lower / warm heat setting (Do NOT use a commercial dryer or a "Hot" setting). This will often restore the fabric and help the water and wind repellent qualities. If in doubt, hang the clothing to dry.
FAQs
The outer short uses a relaxed-fit fabric with enough drape to stay clear of the saddle contact zone entirely — the chamois liner underneath is the only surface in contact with the saddle, functionally identical to wearing a standalone cycling short. The seaming on the outer is positioned away from pressure zones, so there's no additional friction introduced by the two-layer construction.
How do the pockets integrate without adding bulk on the bike?
The pockets are cut into the outer short layer and lie flat against the thigh when empty. Loaded with phone or small items, there's minimal additional movement — the outer fabric doesn't have enough drape to flap or shift at cycling pace. They're more functional for gravel, commuting, and casual riding than for a pure road race context where any added bulk matters.
For riders who own both dedicated cycling shorts and the Prospect 2-in-1, where does this fit in the kit rotation?
It's the go-to for rides that blend on-bike and off-bike time — coffee rides, bikepacking days, group rides with extended café stops, or any situation where you don't want to change out of your kit. The 2-in-1 format means you can walk into a shop or sit at a table without the full lycra aesthetic of a race short. It's not a replacement for a dedicated performance short — it's a complement to one.
