Because we believe how we live shapes how future generations ride, we pledge to use our business practices, products and advocacy to reduce the consumption of oil and embolden all of us to ride more, do more.
How we do it.
Our pledge is brought to life within three areas:

BUSINESS: Progress not perfection
We are continually, obsessively, evaluating our business
to turn a critical eye on our environmental impact and identify
optimizations to improve our operations. We focus on long term
behaviors vs. short term fixes. It’s the only way to create truly

We printed our last catalog in the fall of 2017.
Sales representatives & dealers now have
access to a fully-featured digital platform.
Through the elimination of this paper we are saving annually: 82 trees, 2,222 gallons of oil and 13,600 gallons of water.
Monitoring Our Sustainability Progress
We use a standardized framework called the Higg Index which is an international
measurement tool for the apparel and footwear industry to assess environmental and social sustainability throughout the supply chain.
At PEARL iZUMi, we’ll take those measurements, compare them to industry benchmarks,
and build future-facing business strategies to improve our impacts and ultimately
become a more sustainable business.
A Carbon Neutral Headquarters by 2025
Our award winning building is already energy efficient,
but we’re continuing to reduce the energy we use to
run our business.
Our first goal is to cut our direct greenhouse gas emissions
30% by 2022. To meet our overall goal by 2025 we will produce
or generate 100% of our electricity from renewable
sources & purchase carbon offsets for natural gas use.
Partnership With A Purpose
We have partnered with the Renewal Workshop to repair
and resell PEARL iZUMi warranty returns, giving gently used
products a second life instead of adding to a landfill. It is
a zero waste system that recovers the full value out of
what has already been created as a way of serving
customers, partners and our planet.

Our products are the epicenter of our impact.
That’s why we are a proud industry leader in sustainability
and environmentally-responsible manufacturing.
We create products to last longer and avoid replacement
while employing some of the most innovative,
environmentally-conscious materials in the industry.
Small Actions Have Big Impact
Effective January 2019 we are the first bike brand to
essentially “eliminate” hangtags. Critical information will
be found on one tag the size of a business card,
the smallest size that can be recycled.
Through the reduction of
this paper we are saving annually: 165 trees, 4,503 gallons of oil and
68,882 gallons of water.
A Second Life Better Than The First
Our products now ship in polybags made from 100%
recycled plastic, which can be recycled again.
We also reduced our overall material use by evaluating
and changing how our products are folded and packaged,
to use smaller polybags.
Creating Sustainable Clothing
Our ultimate goal is to outfit your adventures with sustainable clothing. We’ll continue to find, innovate and introduce sustainable performance fabrics like responsibly-sourced Merino wool and down, recycled polyester and nylon, sustainably-grown cotton, and more.
Our goal was to make 30% of our product line in 2020 from recycled, renewable or
organic materials, and to increase that to 90% by 2022. We over-achieved the 2020 goal, at over 40%, and are on track to achieve the 2022 goal.
Built to Last a Lifetime
The most sustainable product is one that you don’t need to replace.
Since 2008 we’ve run every fabric, zipper and
trim through our materials test lab to ensure that they’ll
last the life of the product.
Should a zipper or seam fail, many times we can repair it
in-house instead of replacing it.
ADVOCACY: We are our community
We believe bikes make us better, and therefore
do all we can to get more people on bikes in the hope of
creating more vibrant communities. Our advocacy is action focused,
compelling us to support organizations that have proven their
power in creating more riders and more places to ride.
