Your chamois is the foundation of a good experience on the bike. New cyclists have often asked what all the hubbub is with cycling chamois, and rightfully so. They are a complicated feature-filled thing to explain. And while every manufacturer tries to explain why their chamois are superior, most riders don’t know that PEARL iZUMi has been working for over 25 years on our proprietary chamois development.

In 2011, we started the process of completely updating our chamois lines to engineer and refine some of the best riding chamois in the market. This culminated in 2017 with the P.R.O. Escape 1:1™ Chamois, featuring our floating top sheet design and delivering unmatched comfort. We can validate this claim of the most comfortable short through the comments and “lost” bibs and shorts our wear testing program provided us.

Our chamois are developed with gender needs in mind for fit and function. Clearly, the human anatomy is different in that area of the body when riding on a bicycle saddle. Gender specific shapes and foam densities help engineer a unique fit for riders of different styles and ride times.

You as a rider should determine how aggressive your riding position is on the bike, as that dictates where the chamois and engineered padding should be for best fit and feel. Then consider what kind of ride time or distances you will be on your bike to guide your chamois level for best comfort on your long rides. Putting all of these pieces of the puzzle together will give you a great experience on the bike. One where you forget what you're wearing so you can never forget where you're riding.
